Heschel Havurah w/ R' Adam Weekly on Wednesdays, Starting Feb 5th | 6:00-7:00pm Pacific | On Zoom
Over the past several months, I have been turning to several of Heschel’s classic essays to try to make sense of the tumultuous moment we find ourselves in, and to reflect on my obligations as a rabbi, a Jew, and a human being. Reading Heschel right now is simultaneously challenging and comforting – challenging in the extraordinarily high ethical and spiritual standards he demands, and comforting in the recognition that each generation has faced its own moral tests, and we are not alone.
Reading these essays on my own has been deeply meaningful, but I’ve realized it’s time to invite others into the conversation. That’s why I’m inviting you to join me for a new weekly study group called the: Heschel Havurah.
EVERYONE is welcome. You don’t need to be a member of CBI, nor do you even need to be Jewish to participate. This is an open, welcoming space for anyone interested in exploring Heschel’s profound messages. The only thing you need to bring is an hour of your time, an open mind, and a willingness to engage with these powerful texts in community.
Together, we’ll continue to explore several of his classic essays, and I hope to have occasional guest speakers who will share their favorite Heschel texts. I am purposefully leaving how long this will go on open-ended. Maybe we’ll meet for a couple of months; maybe we’ll still be at this in a few years. Let's see how it goes. I encourage you to sign up, even if you can't attend every week. All are welcome - whether you make it regularly or just drop in now and then. There's no set cost to participate - but I am suggesting a donation of $36/participant, which will be used to support Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center (PJTC), which was destroyed in this month's fires. I hope you'll join in the conversation! R' Adam
